As stability returned to the towns and villages of Deir ez-Zor, schools began welcoming our children back.

However, many lacked even the most basic conditions needed to continue operating.

Most schools were in poor condition, with inadequate access to water, electricity, and sanitation facilities.

In addition, the majority of schools had no heating facilities.

To address these problems, the project to improve the learning environment in Deir ez-Zor was implemented.

The project provided schools with heating equipment, including stoves and fuel tanks. It also involved repairing classrooms where doors or windows were missing.

The project was implemented between 12 December 2018 and 15 February 2019.

A total of 388 schools belonging to the al-Basira, al-Sur, al-Kasra, and al-Jazrat educational complexes benefited from the project.

The following activities were carried out:

Distribution of Heating Equipment and Fuel

A total of 2,954 heating stoves and their accessories were distributed to provide children with a warm and suitable learning environment.

In addition, 484 fuel tanks were supplied, along with diesel fuel for heating.

This activity enabled hundreds of children to return to school after having stopped attending classes because of the extreme cold inside school buildings.

Classroom Repairs

A total of 1,802 classrooms were also repaired.

Distributing stoves and fuel alone would not have been enough while so many schools still lacked doors and windows.

It was therefore necessary to address this problem and repair as many affected classrooms as possible.

A total of 106,805 people across 388 schools benefited from the project.
